Why Should I Become an Autodidact?
Well, of course you don't have to. You always have a choice to the degree in which you commit yourself. In essence we are all autodidacts but to varying degrees. Some take this to higher levels of self learning whilst others will always rely on some form of schooling. You can become an autodidact at any age or situation in your life.
What could be the benefits for me?
You can learn on your own and certainly don't need to travel anywhere.
Formal education needs to be structured to accommodate everyone but fails miserably to fulfill the individual needs. Schooling kills off creativity as there are simply not enough avenues for creative input.
Who knows better about your present needs and goals other than yourself?
In your own free time, and place most comfortable and suitable to you whilst using the tools available to you, are you then able to freely express yourself efficiently and gain the knowledge you wish to acquire. Autodidacts have a distinct sense of individuality and possess unique personal attributes.
We Are Not Your Stereotypical Dropouts.
There is unfavorably a number of stereotypes regarding any kind of drop out. Regrettably some people actually do fit the stereotypes such as never getting a decent paying job, being lazy or stupid and having no social life.
You may be considered a druggie and perhaps be seen as never having the chance to go to college. Should you choose the path of an autodidact and don't fall into a trap of watching too much TV or start taking drugs and depend on other people too much then you will prove everyone wrong and become a great success.
Here are just a few questions to think over;
How many teenagers or adults do you know truly actually enjoy school?
Does schooling cause stress or depression?
Is schooling somewhere we go to learn how to be abusive towards others?
Is it social conditioning that programs our young adults to go into debt from schooling in order to gain a piece of paper that will probably deny them a job?
Is going to college any better than autodidactism?
How would you define an education?
Can you only get one at school or can you educate yourself. Do you trust your government with your heart and soul? To fulfill all those aspirations which you truly wish to learn? You are the only one in the known universe who is qualified enough to speak of you own natural curiosity. Experience is the best teacher, and that applies before and after schooling.
