Your Chance at a Second Life.

Second Life is seen as a vision to connect us all to an online world that advances the human condition, so say the makers Linden Labs.

Started in 2003 by Linden Labs of San Francisco, Second Life is in a constant state of evolution because it is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its residents. It's sustained growth now translates to almost 10 million residents.

I entered the world of Second Life in February 2006 as Avatar Dom Lindman and was setting out on the most exciting adventure in ages. From the moment I had decided on becoming a Resident my imagination was racing away. I pictured a cluster of cities and communities teaming with people, entertainment, experiences and opportunity.

I downloaded the installation software and I logged on for the first time to find myself in Orientation Island with a set of given skills and abilities to learn. A basic knowledge of these skills are of course needed to progress. One stage is to learn to change my appearance. This can be done endlessly with thousands of different facial and body appearances to generate. After getting a feel for walking, flying and communicating I was ready to progress.

I did indeed progress after a couple of days and left "Orientation Island" and teleported onwards to "Help Island". It's from here that I was now free to join the mainland and start my real Second Life experience.

Again at this point, I felt fully immersed and my imagination filled me with the next chapters in my adventure, of the people I may meet, places I could visit, experiences to fulfill and opportunities to take.

Freedom to Create Your Dreams.

One note of interest about Second Life is that I was completely surrounded by the creations of my fellow residents, as they have control of the rights of their 3-D creations. Free to sell, reproduce, or trade with other Residents.

Linden Dollars is the in-world currency and can be converted to US dollars at any time using many Linden Dollar exchanges. I started with a basic free membership and within a few months upgraded to a premium account which enables Residents to buy and own land. I made my monthly payment with Paypal.

This amazing world is always in a state of change because there are always new residents creating an Avatar which then go forth exploring and meeting new people. Residents can find multiple ways of having fun and purchasing land enables them to open a business or build your own piece of paradise. In case you are wondering about the land in Second Life, new virtual land is constantly created to keep up with demand. There was only 64 acres in the year 2003 and now there is over 65,000 acres and probably much by the time you are reading this.

I found that life in Second Life is much easier. Dream of something and you can bring it to life the next minute and that's indeed what it's dedicated to doing. Dream cars, spaceships, Transforming robots and funky nightclubs are all easily within your reach. This is really amazing and powerful, whatever you want, whatever you dream, build it and give it a try.

In Second Life requires a pretty steep learning curve. Everything needs time to get accustomed to.
However, lots of help is at hand. You can always observe or listen in on your fellow residents, see what they are talking about and doing. There are thousands of creations for sale in hundreds of businesses and shops. Creating something isn't that difficult but requires practice to master.

Making Money.

I make real money in Second Life, I want to tell you of course it's possible for anyone to try it.
Here's how it's possible.

Just imagine for a second that you are arriving on a newly discovered world with absolutely nothing there. With hundreds of new Residents arriving on a daily basis wouldn’t you be madly busy building and creating things that would be needed by the growing population.
Well, yes, of course, Second Life is the same. and what would be rewarded most is innovation, and craftsmanship. If you have these skills and implement into your creations, then it's more than possible to make money. You can create your own virtual goods and services. as you retain the IP rights of those creations, you can then sell them to anyone who wishes to buy.

With your newly acquired land, you can build your own business and start to gain your reputation for your ingenuity and craftsmanship. Create your own business locations and see a flourishing community.

The basics of how to start are as follows,
Don't forget your basic account is free, no hidden or extra payments. However, if you wish to buy land you will need to upgrade to a premium account. To create your avatar is simple, you can customize your appearance at anytime and as many times as you wish. You can of course by custom-made skin, hair and accessories at a price.

You may wish to start with some Lindens in your back pocket, so you can either use your credit card or Paypal account to exchange real dollars for linden dollars. The exchange rate generally fluctuates around 270 LD per 1 USD. There are several ways to buy land, either at the Linden Lab Land Store or buy directly from other residents Owning land gives you the opportunity to really begin your Second Life.
