Excuses
Is it our busy schedules? 'I don't have the time', I'm sure you've heard it before? We can all make the initial effort to exercise for the first few days but then why do we get bored to easily? What happens when you get too knackered to keep a constant regime? Don't worry, chances are you aren't alone.
Many people simply find it difficult to find that motivation to continue a prolonged effort to stay in shape. Some other excuses you are most likely to hear are that it's either to hot, cold, or simply I'm plain too busy or tired.
Benefits of Exercise.
Af you gained the knowledge of the numerous positive benefits of exercise then this would certainly increase your motivation. Everyone has a different reason to stay healthy or lose weight. At this time, I'm ready to begin a new fitness regime and my personal reasons are as follows;
- I guess the most important reason for wanting to become fitter is to live longer. It's well known that exercise prolongs life. Read my Live Longer Series for more information.
- I really want to be able to do more active things with my family and friends.
- I want to look and feel healthier and stronger.
- Above all, I want to enjoy a better quality of life, free from illnesses associated with remaining inactive and unhealthy.
Those are just some of my reasons for wanting to exercise consistently and stay in shape, but what are yours?
Make Exercise Enjoyable
Some people may say that exercise is too boring for them. Well, then it's up to you to make it enjoyable enough for you to exercise regularly. We al have a greater chance of success doing something we enjoy. Choose a work out style that best suits you and you enjoy.
Exercising with a friend helps enormously and helps create more enjoyment. Working out in the morning is the most optimal time and shows that you have sufficient commitment to continue a sustained regime.
Making Progress
Make sure you are making progress and you can do this by keeping records of the times and duration of your exercise. While you are keeping track of your progress you can set realistic and achievable goals. This will help your motivation and encourage yourself to set higher more challenging goals.
Reward Yourself
If you can see that progress is being made and goals are gradually accomplished then it's time to reward yourself. A great way to do this is to save a little bit of money in a piggy bank. When a major milestone is achieved then you can cash in on your hard earned savings and maybe even buy something to aid in your fitness regime.
These are just some motivational factors to be aware of for those wishing to exercise and lead long and healthy lives. Look forward to your next exercise routine with 'Exercise is my Reward' by Nancy McCune. What have you got to lose?
