What Are You Made From?
Hydration v's Dehydration.

My partner in life 'Gunk' a qualified pharmacist, has noticed quite a lot that I don’t drink enough water, and finally she gave me all the facts I needed to know to change my drinking habits for the better, so what follows below is my recording of our very enlightening conversation, if this is all too much to read right now, you are most welcome to either print it out, save this page, or bookmark it for reading another time. I’ve also extracted some of the finer points into a brief summary at the bottom of the page for quick scanning.

OK, Sorry to ask, but what is water exactly?
Also known as H20, rain water from the clouds fall down to form streams, lakes, seas, oceans, and sustains groundwater aquifers. Water is a major presence in all living matter and is the most common substance found on earth. It is the only substance found naturally in three forms: solid, liquid and gas.

What are we made from?
Your body is water; up to 70% of the fat free mass of the human body is made of water. Brain 75%, Blood, 82%, Lungs 90%.

Why is water so important?
Water has always been important for the environment and is essential for maintaining all marine life on earth as well as plant and animal life. After oxygen, water is the body's most important nutrient. Water regulates our body temperature, transports nutrients and oxygen around the body, removes waste and protects organs and tissues. Water provides a great alternative for substances that people are hoping to moderate or completely avoid such as caffeine, calories, sugar and alcohol.

Is there enough water for everyone?
70% of the Earth's surface is covered with water, however only a tiny portion of this is called 'fresh' water. 97.5% of the Earth's water lies in the oceans and seas, but is too salty to drink without the necessary water treatment. 1.73% lies locked in frozen glaciers and ice caps.

What would you consider a drought?
Drought is according to The American Science Heritage Dictionary; A long period of abnormally low rainfall, lasting up to several years.

So, how much fresh water is there?
Less than 1% of all the water on Earth is fresh water in the form of ground water and surface water.

Who Uses Water?
Probably everyone, but most water is used for electrical power generation and irrigation, only 11% of our water is used for public water supply.

What are you made of?
Contaminated city water, un-purified well water, or sterilized bottle water. How often do you think about the kind of water you come into contact with. Water is our most important resource. Many health problems can be overcome by drinking suitable water. Lack of water intake leads to dehydration.
Many people suffer from the following symptoms:

Constipation, Diabetes, Dry skin & Hair, High Blood Pressure, Indigestion, Obesity, Osteoporosis and Tension Headache.

I’m going to say that most people have symptoms relating to obesity and dry skin and hair. I'm going to make a few things clear in this article about obesity as a health issue and not an issue of beauty. Obesity is a self inflicted condition that is treatable the same as any other condition.

People get dry skin from Chlorine found in water and this can generate toxic substances. It's amazing to think that even taking a short bath is the same as drinking contaminated water. Chlorine also causes loss of hair and skin aging.

This brings me back to the main point I want to tell you. I strongly recommend that you drink lots of water close to 10 cups of water a day of which ever water you think is best.

So, how do you know when you need to drink water? How do you know when you are dehydrated?
In order to tell, you must look at the signals your body is giving out. Take note of positive feelings such as healthy and energized. Negative aspects, like feeling tired, dry mouth, weak muscles, headaches, dizziness, irritation, confusion, quick heart beats, and low blood pressure.

Maybe you are losing more than you are taking in. Don't forget that water is the best source of hydration so drinking coffee, teas or soft drinks are more dehydrating than hydrating.

Remember, your body is water and most people only drink when they feel thirsty but by that time your body is already dehydrated.

Do you remember what our body is made of, Brain 75%, Blood, 82%, Lungs 90% of water. So if you become dehydrated your body will start to extract water from other parts of your body causing an in-balance and the last thing you would want is for your heart to work overtime during that process.

So, let me just point out again the importance of drinking plenty of clean water, regardless of which type, or brand. I'll leave you to decide what the right type of water is.
