Happiness is a state of mind and it is now claimed that happiness could be more important than smoking in determining your health. If you are happy you are likely in the future to have less in the way of physical illness than those who are unhappy.
But what does it mean to be happy? That question might not be so easy to answer. In fact, happiness is hard to define. But one thing for sure, we know it when we “feel” it.
Can I improve my life simpy by being happier?

Studies show that happy people have better health habits. They have lower blood pressure and their immune systems are stronger and more resistant. Positive emotion is a powerful predictor of how long people will live.
Happy people are half as likely to die and half as likely to become disabled as compared to people who are generally sad. It's also widely known that those who live happy lives have a greater tolerance for physical pain than those who are sad.
Do happier people live longer?
Being in a state of happiness can add years to your life and protects you from stress.
Many studies have found that optimists (a characteristic of happy people) live longer than pessimists.
You may have already read about a famous study of the writing of nearly 180 nuns found that 90% of those with inherent positive emotions in their writing lived to age 85 or beyond. And 54% lived to age 94. In contrast, only 34% of the less cheerful nuns were alive at age 85, and only 11% lived to age 94.
